Our September 10, 2011 APS Program is on Linear Perspective

SPECIAL NOTE: The September 10th APS meeting, program and workshop will be held at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, 225 West State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711 … directions at www.blackmountainarts.org

MORNING MEETING AND PROGRAM: 10am to 12 noon

(Free and open to the public) The program will begin immediately at the end of a brief membership meeting.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn (or refresh your knowledge of) linear perspective drawing skills.

APS is very fortunate to be able offer the expertise of Annie Cicale, an artist/calligrapher/instructor who lives in Fairview but teaches classes and workshops all over the world.

Join Annie for a methodical exercise in linear perspective. Beginning with fundamentals, you’ll learn to put buildings in your cities, winding roads and barns in the countryside, piers and boats in your seascapes, even boxes and vases in your still lifes. In the morning we’ll work through simple one and two point perspective, and in the afternoon we’ll apply it to our own compositions.

AFTERNOON WORKSHOP: 1pm to 4pm

This workshop is open to all. APS Members pay $45.00 and non-members $55.00. There are a limited number of openings, so we would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible to not miss this exceptional offering. We need to know attendance ahead of time.) You may pay by check or via PayPal.

After a 1-hour break for lunch, workshop attendees will re-convene for a “hands-on” workshop with Annie.

This will be your opportunity to apply the principles of linear perspective you have observed in the morning program…to internalize the lessons and make them permanent fixtures of your drawing skills.

Annie will include other drawing “lessons” as time permits.

If you have a painting that you are working on…or have completed…that has an issue of linear perspective you have been unable to address, you are welcome to bring it to this workshop for Annie’s guidance.

Otherwise, the work will not be done in pastel, but will be done with basic drawing tools. You will need large sheets of plain white paper, pencils, an 18 or 24 inch ruler and an eraser. If you want to work with pastels, you will need your regular pastel supplies.

ABOUT ANNIE CICALE

Since 1983, Annie has been in demand for fine arts, design, and calligraphy classes and workshops throughout the US and Canada. She has developed a wide variety of topics that she has presented to groups ranging from beginners to professionals.

“In my classes I work with calligraphers, book artists and painters, as well as those working in other media who are interested in expanding their skills and vision.” “A workshop is a chance to leave all your mundane concerns behind you—whether for a few hours or a few days—to rediscover yourself through your relationship to your own creative process. I try to recreate the kind of atmosphere in which I have learned the most: a relaxed environment, a reasonable pace, a high standard of quality and a little humor.”
